Tips to prep your skin before your photoshoot

Your photoshoot is prepped and scheduled…but what about your skin?

Here are some tips to help you get you ready to glow!

Things to avoid:

  • do not try any new facial treatment within the week of your photoshoot. You make have a reaction leaving your skin inflamed

  • over exfoliation, this may cause you to peel

  • tanning booths….it is NEVER ok to damage your skin with those harmful rays! There are safe sunless tan options. Go to a professional and test it out in advance if you think you want a subtle glow before getting in front of the camera. My personal favourite is Beach Bum Organic Spray Tanning

  • salty food the night before… puffy skin and eyes are hard to hide

  • alcohol the night before… wait until after to celebrate

  • picking at any blemishes, your makeup artist will be able to conceal it much better if you have not agitated it

  • waxing the day before, allow a solid 24-48 hrs before you have your makeup done after hair removal. When soft wax is used it also pulls the skin beneath it, makeup will not adhere or blend the same on this newly exposed skin

Things to do:

  • drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the photo session

  • try sleeping with a silk pillowcase to avoid creases and to help keep hair smooth

  • hydrate your skin with moisturizer the morning of

  • if your eyes are red or look tired, try eye drops prior to having your makeup done. A safe favourite of mine is Lumify Drops they work fast!

  • make sure lips are hydrated in the days leading up

  • have a consult with your makeup artist to go over the look you would like for your photoshoot. If this is not possible, have a few photos of ideas that you like handy so you can work together to create a look you love… pinterest is great for this!
